It's come to that time where both my kids need a designated study nook or desk to do their homework. They aren't doing a great deal at the moment but year by year it's very slowly increasing.
I still have no idea what to put in there, so I guess you could say I am at the beginning & searching for ideas. I know what I am after though, something that is relatively simple in style so it will age with them. I want a bit of storage so they have somewhere to pop stationery, folder & books, & somehow some kind of cork board so they can pin inspiration, ideas, important notices, research ideas etc.
Hudson is in year 2 & homework has become weekly.
Charlotte not so much, instead she likes to create homework, I think it makes her feel important.
I am not really at the moment too keen on them having a desk in their bedroom.
For 2 reasons;
One is that they are a bit on the small size & I am not sure how I would aesthetically put one in there that looked pleasing. Hudson has a laptop too & I am very easy going with him surfing online, & watching you tube, but it must be within my eye contact. Always. That is not negotiable. Luckily he's a really good kid there hasn't been any drama so far.
Two, is they have a huge rumpus style room all to themselves, which is ideal to put two desk/study areas into. This room also connects to my kitchen & lounge area so I can see what they are doing & how productive they are.
Some of these incredible kids study nooks are either too girly, a little dark for me, or just a little too young, but it definitely gives me some design ideas.
I am looking for desks that are white, as that side of the house, the is quite dark.
I quite like the idea of the desks being next to each other, however, I will need to separate them a little so they have their own space.
For now, I am just still on the lookout for inspiration, & I think a trip to Ikea will be on the cards soon.
It's also something I will tackle & really get stuck in to just after Christmas because right now I just can't see me having a whole lot of time with Christmas sales & end of year festivities. However, I am excited, as I know when I was studying at school my desk was my pride of place. Always organised, full of colour, stationary & photos of my friends & I. Geez I wish I had a photo of it, as much as it would have looked incredibly dated I thought it looked pretty
